Simply put
Think of Claude like a coffee shop. During the morning rush (5–11 AM PT on weekdays),
so many people are ordering that each customer gets served a bit less before it's the
next person's turn — your session limit depletes faster.
Outside rush hour, you get your full order. And your total weekly coffee
allowance? Exactly the same. Nothing was taken away — it's just spread
more evenly across the day.
What Changed
📅
Weekly limits are unchanged
Your total weekly token budget hasn't moved. You still get the same amount of Claude usage per week as before. Nothing was taken away — it's just redistributed across the day.
⏱️
Your usage depletes faster during peak hours
During weekday peak hours (5–11 AM PT), your 5-hour session limit counts down at an accelerated rate. So if you'd normally get 50 messages in a session, you might only reach the equivalent of ~35 during peak — even though your weekly total is the same.
👤
Who's affected — and who isn't
Only ~7% of users will notice — mainly heavy users running long sessions during peak hours. Per Anthropic's announcement, this affects individual plans:

Shift heavy jobs off-peak to stretch limits
If you run batch processing, large document analysis, or background automation — scheduling those for evenings, early mornings, or weekends means your session limit depletes at the normal rate.
